We begin with Simon Sinek, a popular motivational speaker and author in America. He once gave a TED Talk in September 2013 on what differentiated good companies from great ones. His entire message boiled down to a key point: the “why” behind the things we do is more important than the “how” and “what”.
In his words, “people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it”.
He illustrated this point to the varying degrees of success Apple enjoys compared to their competitors who are equally capable in producing the same technological products as Apple does.
In reference to Apple, Sinek alluded to their mission to break the status quo in everything they do and to always think differently. This is their “why”, and according to Sinek, establishes the foundation for Apple’s global legion of loyal customers.
Here’s our “Why”
Insurance as an industry has traditionally preyed on the fear of consumers: if you don’t buy this, you’ll risk that or you won’t be covered for this when that other thing happens.
To be fair, for a product like insurance that is largely intangible, this method has proven to work, and work well.
