Coney Island

Coney Island is located on an island off Punggol, in the North Eastern part of Singapore. Punggol is a gem of a neighborhood, full of photogenic locations that can fill up your Instagram feed for weeks. And many of Punggol’s attractions lie on the coast of Punggol, near Coney Island.

Coney Island’s charm lies in how undeveloped it is. It’s a place full of tall trees that look more fitting in Japanese animation than here in Singapore. It boasts 80 species of birds, an abandoned villa and a nature park with a popular gravel cycling track. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see chickens, otters, monkeys, and even a cow roaming in the wild. You and your friends can be assured of a unique cycling experience exploring one of the most scenic places in Singapore.

It offers two popular trial options for you to choose from, depends on the difficulty level you would like to go for. Coney Island closes at 7pm and it will become completely dark. Get out before then!

Opening hours: 7am to 7pm (gate will be closed at 7pm)

How to get there:

From Punggol interchange, take bus 84 to Punggol Point Park/ Punggol Settlement. Walk about 500m east along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk to get to Coney Island West Entrance.

Pasir Ris Park

With over 7km of well-maintained track and convenient bicycle rental facilities, the Park is an ideal place for beginners to get to grips with bikes and enjoy the tranquil beach setting as well as ample shade provided by the sprawling trees throughout the Park. There is even a stretch which passes through a mangrove forest for you to have a moment talking with nature.

With a designated path for cyclists and minimal slopes, humps and bumps, this is the perfect place to build up your confidence on two wheels. After cycling, do pop into one of the Park’s cafes for a bowl of fries or grab something refreshing. You’ve earned it!

Opening hours: All day (Park lighting hours is from 7pm to 7am)

How to get there:

Bus stop no. 77129 (Opp Unit 104), 77119 (Aft Pasir Ris Way), 78109 (Downtown East), 78091 (Opp Downtown East)

Kent Ridge Bike Trail

This place is filled with history, it witnessed one of the most significant battles in Singapore’s history. Kent Ridge Trail is located very near to the city area. It has a short 2 km loop of single track for trail riding and a separate D-Line for the gravity riders. Despite this, the traffic at here is still estimated to be the lowest amongst all the trails in Singapore. There are many alternative paths and it is easy to get disoriented for those who are not familiar with the place.

But as Kent Ridge is a relatively small hill, so there is little to no risk of getting lost in the trail. In recent years, the gravity riders had added some unofficial features within the hills. As such, we would like to advise riders to attempt them at their own risk (or not try them at all if you are not confident) as many of them are not officially built by the park management.

On the way back to the trailhead, be prepared to climb some steep slopes. Many riders would usually just push their way up but it is the strong ones who would give themselves the opportunity to train their legs.

Opening hours: All day (Park lighting hours is from 7pm to 7am)

How to get there:

To get to Kent Ridge Park by public transport, you could take bus 92 from across the Buona Vista MRT Station near the Ministry of Education building. This will bring you into Science Park Drive where it would make a loop back to Ghim Moh Terminal. Alight at the 4th stop when the bus turns into Science Park Drive. If you miss that stop, there is another one right after the loop. Alternatively, you could alight at Kent Ridge Station of the Circle Line and walk into Science Park Drive.

Chestnut Nature Park

Located next to the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, the Park now has a biking trail of 5km and a hiking trail of 6km. This 81-hectare park has a seven-story observation tower that offers visitors panoramic views of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Newly opened in 2016, this is the first nature park in Singapore to have separate hiking and biking trails.

A good place for those who wish to level-up their cycling skills or those who find their regular bike rides getting a little boring. With good amount of climbs and descents, it is a good place for training of endurance and speed. In addition, the trail ground is well-packed, with little unpredictability and wide enough for safe overtaking.

Opening hours: 7am to 7pm

How to get there:

By Bus – Take bus 700 or 966 and alight at Block 202, Petir Road. From the bus stop, take an approximately 2km (30mins) walk along Petir Road/ Chestnut Ave into Chestnut Nature Park.

By Car – Chestnut Nature Park’s car park is located near the eastern end of Chestnut Avenue. If you’re coming from the north (e.g. Bukit Panjang), drive along Petir Road and turn left at Chestnut Avenue. If you’re coming from the south (e.g. Dairy Farm), drive along Petir Road and turn right at Chestnut Avenue. After turning, drive for about 1.5km along Chestnut Avenue and you will arrive at Chestnut Nature Park’s carpark on your left.
