Chinese New Year is coming and we know you’re looking forward to meeting your friends and family, in safe groups of eight of course! If you’re like us, stumped because we can’t get Ang Baos or give them away due of COVID-19 restrictions, don’t worry. There’s an alternative while still maintaining a safe distance between you and your loved ones!
Normal Ang-Bao Cannot Meh?
To avoid spending a long time queueing to get fresh notes at the banks and to reduce the carbon footprint by not giving physical notes, giving E-Ang Baos digitally is definitely the way to go! Especially since there will be some of you who are limited to virtual gatherings via Zoom Calls, MS Teams or Google Hangouts. We’ve listed a few payment options for you to give your Ang Baos safely to your loved ones!
PayNow With Greetings
One of the more common ways of transferring money, you can PayNow to your relatives and friends with graphic greetings. Simply transfer your funds to your recipient with their NRIC or phone number, you can notify them with SMS or Whatsapp once they’ve received! This function will be available for DBS, OCBC, UOB, Standard Chartered, Maybank and Citibank users who will receive an app or SMS notification upon transferring.

You can load up cash and transfer to your recipients, even the kids (with Parental consent of course) almost immediately! Redeem your DBS QR Ang-Baos online, have it delivered by 10 Feb 2021 or you can collect the limited QR packets at any Sheng Siong outlet!

I’m sure you’ve heard of GooglePay by now, on top of using it as a contactless payment option at most shops, Google Pay allows you to earn rewards as you transfer funds. Google has launched their Chinese New Year mini-game Huat Pals, giving you the chance to win up to $88.88 by completing different tasks. They are also running an exclusive promo for OCBC users. Transfer funds to your friends and stand a chance to earn cashback of up to S$30!
Giving The Ang Baos A Bit More Longevity
For those of you who are still giving away physical packets, don’t forget to drop off your used packets at red packet recycling bins located at full-service DBS and POSB Bank branches. Takashimaya is also hosting a recycling point at The Atrium till 28 Feb 2021. A little goes a long way!
