COVID-19 restrictions changes

The Ministry of Health announced on 13 February 2023 that vaccination proof is no longer a requirement to enter Singapore. With this positive shift towards living with COVID-19, Non-COVID-19 vaccinated travelers no longer needed negative pre-departure test results to enter Singapore.

MOH views COVID-19 as a more stable, improved situation, highlighting how Singapore has a sturdy healthcare system and a high vaccination rate. There are quite a few changes are directed towards general travel. You can travel freely without a face mask in public transport and uninstall TraceTogether and SafeEntry, as the apps are being stepped down.

While it’s thrilling to live normally again, as we get ready to book our plane tickets, we mustn’t forget that the COVID-19 still exists and protect ourselves with travel insurance!

What do you need to do to enter Singapore?

According to the ICA website, effective February 13, 2023, all COVID-19 measures for travelers arriving in Singapore have been lifted. This is irrespective of their vaccination status or traveler profile. However, travelers are still required to meet general entry requirements. All travellers must:

  • Have a passport with at least 6 months validity
  • Fulfil their visa requirements
  • Complete the online SG Arrival Card or SGAC

Countries and regions now fall under two classification categories: general travel or restricted. The daily quotas on the daily number of arrivals no longer apply.

Travellers entering will no longer need to book for designated VTL transport or apply for entry approvals – it is now quarantine-free.

The exceptions – Permanent residents, long-rerm pass and work pass holders

For travellers who fall under these categories, their COVID-19 vaccinations must be up-to-date.

Paying for COVID-19 treatment in Singapore

Under the new vaccinated travel framework, there have been changes to the charging policies for vaccinated travellers.

With effect from 1 April 2023, a PR, Long-Term Pass holder or Work Pass holder who recently recovered from COVID-19 will no longer be temporarily exempt from COVID-19 vaccine requirements.

Fully vaccinated Singaporeans and long-term pass-holders also will need to pay partially subsidised medical bills for COVID-19 treatment if they develop symptoms or test positive for the illness.

Unfortunately, travellers who are not fully vaccinated will still be required to cover their own COVID-19 treatment. The charging policy for unvaccinated individuals who contract COVID-19 in the community will apply to them.
